Historians’ Report
Earle
Cornelius & Vicki Miller
USTA
Teams – We had 1 ladies team
(3.5, 40+), managed by Nancy Hanula. 9 of the 17 ladies were members
of the Manheim Tennis Club. There were many Manheim players on various
USTA teams.
We had 1 men’s team (7.0, 65+), managed
by Steve Berkley. They went to sectionals at the DuPont Country Club
and came in 2nd
place. Members were: Steve Berkley, Charlie Smuck, Delbert Hiestand,
Dennis Maust, Dick Fleming, Eric Glatsky, JD Young, Richard Brown, Robert
Woods, Steven Leibig, Todd Snyder, and Bill Loercher. Special members
were: Anthony LaVigne, David Schlosser, Kevin Quigley, and Melvin Nelson.
Central
Penn – Manheim was not one of the
top four teams in the final standings, therefore the team did not make the
playoffs. Steve Berkley was the captain.The league has been in
existence since the 1990s. It was founded by Don Royer, Alan Koth, Ken
Birkett and Steve Berkley.
Creek
Cup – There were no matches in
2025.
Walker
Cup – The Walker Cup was played
at Racquet Club West and the following played for Central Penn: Eric
Glatsky, Bill Loercher, Charlie Smuck, and Bob Woods. This
competition’s interdistrict participants are in the 60’s, 75’s,
70’s, and 75’s age groups. Central Penn finished second behind
Eastern, but ahead of Delaware, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Central
Penn captains were Steve Berkley and Gus Pilarte. The name “Royer”
was added on the trophy in honor of Don Royer who ran the competition for
nearly 20 years.
Golf
Tournament – The tournament was
cancelled due to lack of players.
F&M
Tennis Club vs. Manheim Tennis Club – Two scrimmages were played (4/13 and
10/5). A few Manheim members participated.

Doubles League – Denny Keller
scheduled the matches. There were 135 matches, 285 sets and 2,200
games played. There were 36 third set tie breakers, 10 tie breakers
for set, and 29 7-5 sets. There were 54 players (subs included) and
222 # different teams; 0.3 or higher = 35 matches # matches underdog won 7
(20%); 0.4 or higher = 24 matches # matches underdog won 2 (.08%). The
following individuals played with different players: Jim Rhoads –
20; Steve dePerrot and Vicki Miller – 16; Dennis Maust – 15; Dick
Fleming and Mike Hermann – 14. The following individuals played
against different players: Jim Rhoads – 24; Jerre Pietsch – 20;
Dennis Maust, Mike Hermann, Steve dePerrot and Vicki Miller – 18.
The top 5 Won Lost are as follows: Raj Ghimire 5 0 100.0%; Bob Woods 4

Evening League – Nancy Hanula
scheduled the matches. It worked out well for some of our newest
members, affording them playtime each week.

Tennis Club Tournaments (Club Champions)
– Men’s Singles – Eric Glatsky defeated Rob Evans (6-4, 6-4); Men’s
65+ Singles – Don Musser defeated Dennis Maust (6-0, 6-0); Men’s
Doubles – Dick dePerrot & Steve dePerrot defeated George Kurien &
Jim Rhoads (6-7, 7-6, 6-4); Mixed Doubles – Madhavi Reddy & Todd
Knorr defeated Cathy Tobin & Brian Crouse (6-0, 6-4);Women’s Doubles
(round robin) – Amanda Christman & Vicki Miller (51.43% vs 51.35% and
47.37%); and Juniors (4 teams) – Kayla Minnich & Asher Boer defeated
Sydney Peters & Owen Patten (6-1, 6-4).
Manheim
Tennis Club 2025 Members & Officers
– There were 96 members, including 57 regular, 3 new, 18 juniors, 10
part-year, 5 husband and wife, and 3 life members. Officers were:
Jerry Stehman – President; Nancy Hanula – Vice President; Denny Keller
– Secretary/Treasurer and Grounds Manager; and Earle Cornelius & Vicki
Miller – Historians.
Miscellaneous
– A new storage unit was added to the side of the Club House. A
plaque in memory of Don Royer will be placed at the new addition.
